The puntastic Them’s Fightin’ Herds is collecting some mondo cash on IndieGogo, and seems to have a lot going for it. It features hardcore, combo-based 1v1 fighting, adorable characters that look like they’ve been ripped off of My Little Pony, and… well, that’s it. But it’s a combo that works better than I would have thought!

Let’s first talk about the Pony-ness of it all. Are the developers just thieving copycats? Yes and no! Originally, yes they were. They started developing the game under the name Fighting is Magic, a take-off of Friendship is Magic from the subtitle of the most recent iteration of My Little Pony. They then included actual MLP characters, and subsequently got slapped with a cease and desist letter from Hasbro (and what else did they think was going to happen?). But then in a miraculous turn of events, Lauren Faust, the designer of the characters from MLP: Friendship is Magic joined the game developers in creating a new set of characters that look exactly like the famous ponies. And everyone was happy!

I have more to say, but you should probably just watch a match first. There are some seriously cute/brutal combos happening in Them’s Fightin’ Herds.

The game is said to feature a 4-button fighting system—light, medium, heavy and magic (special); a juggle decay system where the opponent becomes heavier after enough juggling, effectively limiting the juggle but not putting a hard limit on it; and a visual lobby where everyone can goof around and find cosmetic items for your character.

You can check out the funding page on IndieGogo, and vote to get it on Steam through Greenlight.
