E3 may not be an indie mecca as far as game conferences go, but that’s not going to stop us from hauling out anything even remotely indie from the biggest game expo in the world. And so we bring you the newest gameplay footage from Comcept’s upcoming game Mighty No. 9, the spiritual successor to the Mega Man franchise. The kickstarter-funded game has seen much love from old-school Mega Man fans as the game quickly surpassed it’s original $900,000 by almost 3 million! Let’s check out the video.

The demo takes us through the game’s intro stage as we see Beck, shooting and dashing through everything in his path. The game moves pretty quickly as dashing seems to be the main attack in the game but be careful. Players will need shoot their enemies until they start to change color before they can dash into them. Dashing into enemies is also how you get stronger in the game, and the faster you do it, the stronger you get. Players will have a limited time to make contact with their enemies before they recover.

What really interested me about the demo however is the way that they handled boss battles. Instead of shooting the boss to death players will need to shoot the boss to lower it’s “protection bar”. You can see this when the bar changes color. As it gets lower players simply dash into it to do damage. Different bosses will have different weaknesses however so preparation is key.

Mighty No. 9 will be available for PS3, PS4, and PS Vita as well as Xbox 360, Xbox One, and PC. PlayStation owners will have the option to cross-buy this game, and if you pre-order it you get to play as Ray, the female protagonist of the game. We didn’t get to see any of her gameplay, but Comcept assures us that her game play will be very different than Beck’s.

And we’ll leave you with one of the more official trailers making the rounds because we know you can’t get enough.
