300,000 dollars is a lot of money. That’s likely more than the value of my human existence. Yes, I’m willing to admit it right now: the sum value of my life’s worth of knowledge, earthly possessions, and even my physical body and its facilities and organs do not even close to stack up to the amount of money that has been heaped onto Divinity: Original Sin 2 in its first half-day of crowdfunding. It’s alright—hard truths are the best truths. And my cheeks were feeling a little dry anyway.
So let’s talk about why. The original Original Sin was a Kickstarted game as well, and with its impressive demonstration of endlessly interactive environments and multi-faceted turn-based battle, managed to get more than twice its goal of $400,000. And after release, went on to receive GameSpot’s award for PC game of the year. And let’s not forget that there were a number of other Divinity games before even that one stretching back to 2002. So really it was just a case of building momentum that has pushed the franchise to this point, and who knows where it will go from here. Check out the trailer below to get primed for the action.
