The real-time strategy genre has thoroughly explored space and sky, but has been strangely absent from the underwater depths. Developer IceBird is now on Kickstarter ready to fill this gap with their underwater RTS game Submerge.
Submerge will feature both a singleplayer campaign and a multiplayer PVP mode. The emphasis seems to be on the multiplayer mode, where players compete with up to fifteen others for resources while fending off deep-sea creatures and each other. If your oxygen runs out, your team drowns and you lose the match. Submerge also features a detailed “Tech Tree” system, which allows players to unlock new units and upgrade the ones they already have.
For those who aren’t quite up to the competition and cutthroat nature of PVP, there will be a Co-Op mode, where you and a friend can try to collect as many resources as possible. However, you both share units, bases and oxygen levels so teamwork is what this mode is all about. Not much has been revealed about the campaign except that the player takes the role of John Cooper, the captain of the ark “Mother of the Seas” who is searching for reservoirs of resources below the sea’s surface.
Submerge’s Kickstarter campaign has just begun its voyage, so if you are interested in this detailed and unique underwater RTS, check it out and help them reach their pledge. They also have a large amount of stretch goals, one of which is to control sea creature units, which can only add to this impressive and diverse game.
