Just a quick heads up to all my Nintendo-owners out there, my personal favorite indie action platformer of the year, The Swindle, is now out on Wii U through the Nintendo eShop. The Swindle combines elements of stealth-based platforming, bite-sized procedurally-generated levels, skill and stat trees, and rogue-like difficulty and permadeath to make one of the most addicting 2D gaming experiences of 2015.
Now I’m going to share a personal gripe about the Nintendo eShop right that I ran into while attempting to purchase The Swindle for my brother’s (belated, oops) birthday: you cannot gift games directly through your Wii U console eShop. You can only do it through the website, wherein you get a download code that you would need to deliver to your giftee. Which would be okay, I suppose, except that only certain games (not including The Swindle, currently) are eligible to be purchased through the website. What’s up with that? Com’on Nindie, let me have the gift of giving here!
But don’t worry, you can still gift the game directly to yourself through your console, you selfish little imp. And if you don’t have a Wii U, you can still get it on Steam as well as the full Sony suite.
